Bupa, a leading healthcare provider in the UK, has today announced the appointment of Chris Carroll as Chief Executive Officer for the Bupa Global, India and UK market unit, commencing 1 January 2026, subject to regulatory approval. Chris will report to Iñaki Ereño, CEO for Bupa Group, to lead the continued growth of Bupa’s portfolio of insurance and provision businesses in the UK.
Chris Carroll
Chris takes up this role having moved to the UK in January 2025 to lead Bupa Insurance, from Bupa’s Health Insurance business in Australia where he held the role of Managing Director from March 2022. Prior to this he was Director for Domestic Retail Portfolio, Bupa Australia’s clinics business, having joined Bupa in November 2020. Before Bupa, Chris was CEO for WS Audiology - Asia Pacific, where he led the transformation agenda for Medibank, a major health insurer in Australia.
With more than 25 years' commercial experience across health insurance, health provision, media and telecommunications in Australia and Europe, Chris’s focus has been to deliver more simple, personalised, relevant products through a seamless customer experience. He has made an early impact in Bupa Insurance, creating value with tailored propositions to market, retail partnerships to reach more customers, and working closely with the Bupa Dental Care and Bupa Health Services businesses for end-to-end customer pathways.
Chris said: “I am delighted to step into the leadership of Bupa Global, India and UK at this pivotal time. We are on an exciting journey of collaboration across health systems and improving our customers’ health outcomes. Through our expansion of Bupa Blua digital healthcare services, market leading products and expansion across provision, we want more customers to have the peace of mind that their entire health journey can be with Bupa, through sickness and wellness, and at every life stage. I am excited to continue our momentum, to reach more people with high-quality, trusted care.”
Richard Washington, Medical and Healthcare Director for Bupa Insurance, is appointed to the role of Chief Executive Officer for Bupa Insurance from 1 January 2026, subject to regulatory approval. He will report to Chris Carroll to lead the continued growth of Bupa Insurance’s consumer and business insurance segments in the UK. Richard is an experienced leader in financial services: he joined Bupa in 2018 as Product and Proposition Director for Bupa UK Insurance, becoming General Manager for Bupa Insurance’s Consumer division in 2021 and leading Bupa Insurance for an interim period in 2024. Previous to Bupa, he held senior roles at Lloyds Banking Group and NatWest.
Having held the role of CEO for Bupa Global, India and UK since 2021, Carlos Jaureguizar moves to the role of Chief Executive Officer for Bupa’s Europe and Latin America (ELA) market unit from 1 January 2026, subject to regulatory approval. He will continue to report to Iñaki Ereño, CEO for Bupa Group. Prior to moving to the UK, Carlos was General Manager for Bupa Chile from 2018, and previous to this was Chief Financial Officer for Bupa’s Europe and Latin America market unit from 2014. He joined Bupa as Strategy Director for Sanitas, Bupa’s business in Spain, in 2006.
Carlos Jaureguizar
Under Carlos’ leadership of Bupa Global, India and UK, it has delivered strong performance, increased its presence in the UK to 4.1m insurance customers, has 2.5m digital customers through Blua digital services and expanded its provision footprint of clinics, dental practice and care homes, including the acquisition in June 2025 of New Victoria Hospital in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey; Bupa’s first hospital acquisition since 2008.
There has been steady investment to increase speed and access to healthcare services: from the launch of GP subscriptions, wellbeing services through the Blua digital app and commitment to open 70 Mindplace clinics in the UK by 2027; to Bupa becoming the first major healthcare provider to launch a tiered series of DNA products for personalised health plans and treatment. In 2024, Bupa increased its share in Niva Bupa and successfully listed it on the Indian stock exchange, and in recent years has expanded its Bupa Global locations in Egypt, Manilla and Nairobi to reach more international customers.
Throughout this time, people have remained at the heart of Bupa with its commitment to inclusion, learning and making a better world. Bupa has partnered with ParalympicsGB since 2022; launched its Healthy Cities initiative; and in June 2025, reinvested profits to open a dedicated Clinical Training Academy in Staines, London, for healthcare professionals to advance their skills across dental, care and clinical settings and attract healthcare professionals to the UK.
Iñaki Ereño, CEO for Bupa Group said: “At Bupa, we have world-class leaders with unrivalled experience across global markets to drive performance, health innovation and customer growth. These appointments are a testament to the unmatched strength and talent in our leadership teams across Bupa to drive customer centricity and innovative healthcare. Across all our Bupa markets, we are committed to embedding our transformation agenda, delivering the highest standards of care and fulfilling our purpose of helping people live longer, healthier, happier lives and making a better world.”
