Polish mental health start-up MoodMon wins sustainability innovation programme

Bupa's sustainability and innovation accelerator programme sees Polish mental health start-up MoodMon voted overall winner.

  • 2024 eco-Disruptive programme focussed on supporting those who face barriers accessing quality healthcare
  • Thousands of Bupa employees voted for MoodMon which will receive £200,0001 to further develop their product and a trip to a Bupa business in a different country

Bupa, the international healthcare company, has announced MoodMon, as the winner of its talent development and sustainability innovation programme, eco-Disruptive. Poland-based start-up MoodMon has created an app to support people with depression and bipolar disorder and the team was selected as the winner from a strong list of over 1,000 of global start-ups competing.

Now in its fourth year, the hugely successful eco-Disruptive programme has enabled hundreds of Bupa employees from across the globe to work together with entrepreneurs and start-ups to find innovative solutions to the sustainability challenges facing people and the planet. Titled eco-Disruptive: Healthy Societies, this year’s programme has focussed on the needs of people who face barriers to access quality healthcare.

Nigel Sullivan, Chief Sustainability and People Officer, Bupa, said: “Our eco-Disruptive programme brings together the energy and agility of start-ups with the experience and capabilities of Bupa.

“We would like to thank all the start-ups who participated in the programme this year, working tirelessly to develop solutions to make healthcare accessible to everyone.”

As the focus on mental health remains sharper than ever globally, MoodMon uses artificial intelligence to monitor voice, activity and other mental health indicators on a daily basis, providing patients and doctors with early warnings of mood changes. The app enables doctors to respond faster and adjust treatment, making patients feel supported.

MoodMon has been awarded £200,0001 to invest in their solution and will continue to work with Bupa employees to drive sustainability action. They also have the opportunity to travel and meet other eco start-ups and the broader Bupa business around the world. In addition, the MoodMon team will receive tailored support from Plug and Play, the world's largest innovation platform, which involves mentoring and investor meetings to support start-up growth and scaling up, and an opportunity to pitch their business at Plug and Play's Summer Summit in Silicon Valley.

As part of Bupa's ambition to accelerate the development of innovative sustainability technologies, the finalists of the 2024 eco-Disruptive programme will be able to benefit from the Plug and Play ecosystem, including networking and business opportunities.

About the eco-Disruptive programme

The eco-Disruptive programme was first launched in 2021 and is now in its fourth year, running across countries or regions where Bupa operates including Australia, Poland, Spain, UK, New Zealand, and Hong Kong. This year we shifted our focus towards the needs of those in society who face barriers to accessing quality healthcare.

This initiative is part of Bupa's sustainability strategy which recognises that it's not possible to look after people's health without addressing the health of the planet.
