Our strategic framework guides what we do as a business. It has three core pillars: Customers, People, Performance.
We aim to deliver amazing customer experiences every time. We believe we can only do this if our people love working at Bupa and are supported to deliver for customers. Our business must achieve strong and sustainable performance so we are here for customers for many more years into the future.
We began in 1947 in the UK, when 17 provident associations joined together to form Bupa with the purpose of "preventing, relieving and curing sickness and ill health of every kind". Since then we’ve grown into a global healthcare business that employs around 83,000 people, principally in the UK, Australia, Spain, Chile, Poland, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Turkey, Brazil, the US, Middle East and Ireland. We also have associate businesses in Saudi Arabia and India.
We’re proud that through us, millions of people have access to high-quality healthcare and residential care they trust.
We focus on building a strong business by reinvesting our profits to provide more and better healthcare to benefit our customers now and into the future. Clinical expertise is at the heart of our business and the decisions we make.
We directly employ around 83,000 people, principally in the UK, Australia, Spain, Chile, Poland, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Turkey, Brazil, the US, Middle East and Ireland. We also have associate businesses in Saudi Arabia and India.
Health insurance accounts for the majority our business. In some markets we also operate clinics, dental centres, hospitals, and care homes and villages.
The Bupa Code
To help our people make the right choices, we have the Bupa Code. It explains how we can protect our customers, our colleagues, our partners and Bupa, now and in the future. It helps us build trust and strong relationships with our communities.
Bupa aims to operate to the same corporate governance standards as required of UK FTSE 100 companies where appropriate.
