Bupa has come a long way from our origins as a UK health funding organisation in 1947.
We’ve become an international healthcare company, providing health insurance, treatment in clinics, dental centres and hospitals, and running care homes where residents truly feel at home.
We directly employ around 84,000 people, principally in the UK, Australia, Spain, Chile, Poland, New Zealand, Hong Kong SAR, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico, the US, Middle East and Ireland. We also have associate businesses in Saudi Arabia and India.
Health insurance accounts for the majority our business. In some markets we also operate clinics, dental centres, hospitals, and care homes and villages.
Leadership and corporate governance
Bupa aims to operate to the same corporate governance standards as required of UK FTSE 100 companies where appropriate.
The Bupa Code
To help our people make the right choices, we have the Bupa Code. It explains how we can protect our customers, our colleagues, our partners and Bupa, now and in the future. It helps us build trust and strong relationships with our communities.
We began in 1947 in the UK, when 17 provident associations joined together to form Bupa with the purpose of "preventing, relieving and curing sickness and ill health of every kind". Since then we’ve grown into a global healthcare business that employs around 84,000 people, principally in the UK, Australia, Spain, Chile, Poland, New Zealand, Hong Kong SAR, Turkey, Brazil, Mexico, the US, Middle East and Ireland. We also have associate businesses in Saudi Arabia and India.
