Community groups and schools benefit from a further £500,000 funding boost

Groundwork and the Bupa Foundation have awarded over half a million pounds to schools, PTA’s and community organisations for the third year, thanks to the Green Community Grants programme.

271 schools and community groups were given over £500,000 throughout 2025 to revitalise green spaces and create happier and healthier places and spaces in towns and cities.

Funded projects – which included projects from 132 schools and 139 community organisations – transformed outdoor classrooms, community allotments, sensory gardens and other neglected green spaces. One project in Salford was supported to create a mini community allotment from an area of waste ground outside a block of housing flats, helping to bring health and wellbeing opportunities to their doorstep.

Anna Russell, Bupa Foundation Director, said: "We’re delighted to announce the 2025 Bupa Foundation Green Community Grants, with total funding across three years now reaching £1.5 million. The creativity and dedication of schools and community groups in bringing projects to life that help people and places thrive is truly inspiring. Congratulations to this year’s grantees - and thank you for everything you do to bring nature closer to home and support healthier, more connected communities."

Graham Duxbury, Groundwork’s UK Chief Executive said: “We are delighted that schools and community groups up and down the UK have been able to benefit from this much-needed funding from the Bupa Foundation, helping to support and expand projects that deliver environmental learning and improve wellbeing. All of our experience tells us that promoting practical action in local communities is one of the most effective ways of tackling growing levels of mental ill-health and the accelerating impacts of the climate and nature crisis. Projects may be simple - helping people grow food in a community garden or introducing children to nature through a forest school – but they can have profound and lasting impacts on the way we connect with each other and care for the environment.”

Over three years, £1.5 million has been given out in funding, supporting 794 groups across the UK, Republic of Ireland and the Channel Islands to put their green space improvements into action.
The Green Community Grants fund runs as part of Bupa’s #HealthyCities initiative - where Bupa employees, suppliers and customers move to unlock money for charity.
