Bupa today unveils its new Clinical Training Facility, a state-of-the-art facility that will deliver in-depth training to clinical health professionals, boosting workforce capability across healthcare systems in the UK.
This comes amid well-known growing healthcare skills shortages. The NHS Long Term Workforce Plan identified a shortfall of over 112,000 healthcare workers in 2023, set to grow to 360,000 by 20361. Additionally, there are over 165,000 vacancies for care workers and a shortage of 2,749 dentists2.
The first-of-its-kind facility, designed to promote learning, innovation and build world-class skills for UK healthcare workers, opens today in Staines.
It will train thousands of health and social care professionals per year, empowering learners including care workers, nurses, doctors, dental nurses and dentists to develop vital skills and knowledge and boosting workforce capability.
Attendees will learn, practice and master critical skills in a safe environment, building a pipeline that benefits the wider healthcare system, from professional bodies and charities to higher education and NHS partners.
Carlos Jaureguizar, CEO for Bupa Global, India and UK, said: "Our Clinical Training Facility, part of Bupa Campus, represents a transformative commitment to build a pipeline of highly skilled talent that will benefit the broader healthcare system in the UK.
“With skill shortages across critical roles in care, dentistry and clinical settings, we recognise the need to develop a pipeline of healthcare professionals in the UK so that people can access the health services they need.
“Through this facility we want to provide a safe setting to master in-depth knowledge and skills, inspiring people to pursue fulfilling careers in healthcare. This means access to the latest technologies and techniques to confidently provide patients, customers and residents with high quality care and treatment, to live well for longer and enable better health outcomes.
“With no shareholders, our reinvestment of profits to train the UK’s health workforce underscores our commitment to delivering world-class care for patients and playing our role in the wider health ecosystem to attract, build and retain talented health professionals in the UK.”
Health and social care professionals attending the Facility will learn in high-tech simulation labs, and use 3D technology, VR headsets and advanced mannequins to practice their clinical skills.
Training will range from cardiothoracic and MSK care to imaging, injection skills, acute care training, genomics and resuscitation training. Specialist courses for care workers will include enhanced training in subjects such as diabetes, wound care, acute adult care, while dental trainees will have access to oral health practitioner apprenticeships, diplomas, equipment care and maintenance, radiography and anaesthetic courses.
The Clinical Training Facility, part of Bupa Campus, is based in Staines, UK. Bupa Campus also incorporates facilities in Madrid, Spain and Melbourne, Australia.
