- Bupa Family+ includes exclusive savings on health insurance.
- All children are covered for the price of one when paying for the eldest child*.
- Families save 10% on new Bupa By You policies.
Bupa, the UK’s leading health insurer, has launched a new proposition built around exclusive savings for families.
With Bupa Family+, when customers insure the eldest child up to the age of 20, any younger children will be covered on the policy for free making health insurance a more affordable option even for larger families.
What’s more, families will receive a 10% discount on new Bupa By You Comprehensive and Treatment and Care policies that can be purchased through an intermediary, online or over the phone.
Mental health is Bupa’s highest claims area for children and young people aged 4-17. This reflects the national picture in the wake of the pandemic with record numbers of children seeking mental health help last year. In response to this growing need, Bupa Family+ includes extensive mental health support, including cover for more conditions, ongoing support for longer term conditions and support through its Family Mental HealthLine.
Bupa’s cover also includes cancer care for the whole family, and round-the-clock support from Bupa’s extra services. Customers can access same day GP appointments and speak to a nurse on the phone at all hours of the day for fast referrals into specialist care, or advice on symptoms and what to do about them.
Richard Glassborow, Consumer Director for Bupa UK Insurance said: “The past few years has made family health a top priority. With Bupa Family+, parents and carers can find added peace of mind knowing they’ll be supported for both the everyday and critical healthcare concerns.
“This latest proposition aligns to our strategic ambition of being the UK’s leading health and wellbeing brand – and we want to be the number one choice for families. It also supports intermediaries to showcase the comprehensive support we provide for their clients.”
Student survival campaign
To support the launch of Family+, Bupa commissioned new research of parents whose children either attend university, have done in the past or plan to soon. It found that nearly a fifth of parents fear their teenager will ignore a health issue while at university, as many self-diagnose on Google.
Many of the 2,000 parents polled said their child thinks they are 'invincible' and nothing bad will ever happen to them, and just 13 per cent think their son or daughter would consult a proper doctor as soon as they feel unwell.
Dr Naveen Puri, Medical Director for Bupa UK Insurance said: “All parents worry about their children, whatever their age. But it can be especially difficult when they move out for the first time and become more independent – and you are no longer nearby to help them.
“Making sure they have the knowledge about what to do in different health situations is a great way of not only ensuring they can look after themselves, but also allows you to relax a little knowing they have the tools they need.”
Following the findings, Bupa has launched an online guide (PDF, 848KB) to help those embarking on this new life stage.
