National Inclusion Week at Bupa Global & UK

National Inclusion Week at Bupa Global & UK

Diversity and inclusion sits at the heart of Bupa Global & UK, where we have made the commitment that Everyone is Welcome.

Last year, we were proud to be ranked 3rd in the Inclusive Companies Top 50 UK Employers List 2021/22, a list of UK-based organisations that promote inclusion across all protected characteristics, throughout each level of employment. Yet we know there is always more to be done and we are constantly seeking ways to be more inclusive for everyone.

In July 2022, we became the official healthcare partner for ParalympicsGB, providing support and care to the athletes in the run up to Paris 2024. The partnership also enables us to work together to promote inclusivity and challenge barriers around disability in society.

In July 2022, we also welcomed 42 interns to Bupa, in partnership with social mobility charity Career Ready, supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds into work. These interns joined teams in our London, Manchester and Staines offices for four weeks of paid work, masterclasses with our careers experts and networking events to set them up for successful long-term careers.

We have continued to grow our Be You at Bupa network and have hosted webinars around neurodiversity, gender, women’s health, faith, sexuality, inclusion, inviting speakers such as Harnaam Kaur. We are committed to covering a broad spectrum of topics to connect and respond to the experiences of our people.

We recognise that the menopause is a life experience that will face at least half our workforce, whether personally or supporting loved ones. We therefore introduced our Menopause Plan to our people, empowering them to seek advice, choose treatment and take control of their health. It includes an appointment with a menopause trained doctor plus a follow up 12-weeks later, action plan, 24/7 helpline with onward referral and prescription as needed. We’ve had strong, positive feedback from employees who have used the service, talking about how much it’s helped them during this time.

Early this year, we launched our partnership with Tommy’s, a national Pregnancy and Parenting charity, which funds research and provides support to those starting a family and who have suffered baby loss. We’re proud to have signed up to the Pregnancy and Parenting at Work programme, providing managers and colleagues with e-learning tools, webinars and helplines to help them support all colleagues through any pregnancy journey, including complications, fertility treatment, premature birth and baby loss.

And each year, we take part in Pride celebrations across the UK, supporting our LGBTQ+ colleagues and the differences that make us each special, in the communities that we live and work.

Carlos Jaureguizar Ruiz-Jarabo, CEO at Bupa Global & UK: “At Bupa Global & UK we want our people bring their whole selves to work every day. We encourage and celebrate diversity and inclusion, and strive to create an environment where everyone is welcome.

“Having a diverse workforce reflects the diversity of our customers, which enables us to continually evolve our offer to meet their needs. By partnering with ParalympicsGB, we want to offer our high-quality care to our athletes as well as work together to change perceptions around disability in society. This is a commitment we make to our people as well as our customers, as we work to promote greater inclusivity in business, healthcare and the community.”
