- New Covid-19 safety badge shows which hospitals and clinics confirm they meet the UK guidance for Covid-19 patient safety standards.
- Anyone can check using Bupa Finder, a free online directory of healthcare professionals and services.
- Offers reassurance to patients that services are safe.
Bupa UK Insurance has introduced a “Covid-19 safety badge” so that customers can see which hospitals and clinics comply with the UK guidance on infection control measures to prevent the spread of the virus and protect patients.
As lockdown restrictions come into force across the UK, the Government and health bodies have stressed their commitment to continuing non-elective surgery, and the importance for people to continue accessing healthcare.
To reassure customers that services are safe, Bupa invited all hospitals within its network to evidence that they’re following the appropriate guidance for five key areas:
- Hospital COVID-19 testing protocols
- Patient pathways
- Staff screening process
- Remote consultation policy
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policy
Anyone can check which facilities have confirmed they are meeting published national guidelines by looking-out for the Covid-19 safety badge on Bupa Finder, a free online directory of healthcare professionals and services.
James Sherwood, Director of Healthcare Management, Bupa UK Insurance said: “Some of our customers tell us that they’re anxious about going into hospital for treatment right now so it’s really important that we give them clear information about what hospitals and clinics are doing to keep patients safe. These extra measures will reassure customers that providers in Bupa’s network adhere to the highest standards.
“We’re urging customers not to sit on symptoms or put-off treatment during lockdown. Almost all of the consultants in our network have availability to see new patients face to face, or via phone or video, and we’re ready to help customers get quick and easy access to support.”
Visits to Bupa Finder are up by more than 20% compared to the start of the year, with around 130,000 people using the site every week to check the latest availability at Bupa recognised hospitals and find out which healthcare professionals are accepting new patients.
Bupa health insurance customers also have access to a wide range of at-home healthcare services. Through Bupa From Home they can get advice from nurses on everyday health concerns, treatment from GPs, physios and mental health therapists, and fast access to diagnosis and treatment for critical conditions such as cancer, cardiac and mental health.
