With a record-breaking summer ahead, mosquitos are set to become a huge problem for residents in Hong Kong. And our team spotted a gap to provide environmentally friendly mosquito-repellent solutions for the local community.

Hosted in the build-up to World Environment Day, Bupa volunteers held a workshop to assist the elderly in making their own organic products, such as a mosquito-repelling bar, to help them deal with the rising influx of mosquitos in their homes and reduce the nuisance.

Partnering with the Hong Kong Young Women’s Christian Association (HKYWCA), 20 of our colleagues volunteered to encourage awareness and actions for the protection of the environment with almost 30 elderly people and their carers from the local community.

The event kicks off a series of events in partnership between Bupa’s Hong Kong businesses and HKYWCA, which will focus on caring for the elderly while promoting green living. Future events planned include a farm workshop and an outing with ceremony to appreciate the carers’ selfless dedication.

Angus Slater, Managing Director for Bupa in Hong Kong, said: “This is a great example of how we can partner with others to proactively improve the health and wellbeing of the local community.

“We know that with such a warm summer ahead, mosquito nuisance will become an even bigger problem, so it’s important to equip people to help them better manage this problem and ensure they remain healthy and happy.”
