Meet Kay, Practice Manager at our Netherfield practice. Kay shares her story telling us how she came to be practice manager and what she loves most about her role.
"So my story starts as a young Australian Art student wanting to change the world through art!
I went to University in Nottingham and after studying for 5 years I thought the time had come to get a real job, that's where I fell into the world of retail.
I’d been a Retail Manager in various different forms for over 20 years and I'd never thought about changing direction until I got a call from an old manager asking if I'd like to come over to one of the Practices and have a look at the Practice Managers role.
It was totally different. I was used to 60 hour weeks running around like a headless chicken but here I actually had time to have a coffee with my team and get to know them straight away.
The best thing about my role are the people and the variety, no two days are the same. I love my team; we look after each and ensure our patients feel the same. We have funny moments every day, whether it's something we've done in our personal lives or on a works night out. Laughter is the best medicine, so they say, and we do lots of laughing.
So the rest is history really. I've been working as a Practice Manager for Bupa for just over a year and I couldn't be happier. The work life balance is fantastic and every day is different. I have a great team and a wonderful, supportive peer group. It's been great learning new skills and adapting my existing skills to fit the role.
I'm a big believer in 'everything happens for a reason' and I'm right where I'm supposed to be. For anyone thinking of joining - take the leap, you won't regret it! Bupa is a fantastic company and the support you receive will help you along your journey!"
