On Saturday 24 August 2019, nearly 100 colleagues, including their friends and families, proudly represented Bupa at the Manchester Pride parade.
The team showed their support for the LGBTQi+ community and brought the ‘Be you at Bupa’ commitment to life. This year’s theme was Deep Space Pride: A Future World of Equality.
Nikki Williams, Quality Consultant, working at Bupa Place and one of the organisers for the Bupa team, shares her experience from the day: "I am incredibly proud of what we achieved on Saturday - the atmosphere was electric. Despite the soaring temperature, we all had an amazing time. We had Bupa employees walking with their families, we had mums walking besides their daughters...it was a beautiful day, full of wonderful memories!”
“At one point we had the Manchester crowd cheering “Be you at Bupa” – a lasting memory for me!”
“Having organised Bupa taking part in the parade in Manchester the past two years, I get such a real buzz when I hear people talking about the parade. You can walk around Bupa and see all kinds of wonderfully different people. We’re a diverse and inclusive workplace. The sign on the front of Bupa says #BeYouAtBupa – that’s what this is all about – being us – with the added Everyone is Welcome – I am incredibly proud to be a part of that.”
Fleur Largot, Member Service Adviser, Bupa: “My family supported me on Saturday and had a wonderful time. They felt so welcomed by everyone at Bupa. Even my step sister, who’s 14, said that she feels more comfortable with herself and realised more than ever that its ok to be who you are.”
Debbie Tebbutt, PA to General Manager, Bupa: “After the parade, my daughter was left feeling like she could change the world. As a parent, it is the the most amazing feeling to see your child grow before your eyes and I truly believe Saturday did that for her. She’s a wonderful daughter I’m immensely proud. She’s so enthused and is thinking about how she can use this feeling going forward as a mental health student ambassador. My thanks to all at Bupa for including us on the day and for making us both feel like part of the team”
