“Live Healthy Live Green”: Bupa and BottLess partnership

At Bupa, we are committed to caring for the environments and communities in which we live and work. That’s why ‘environment’ is one of the five pillars of Bupa’s Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CRS) agenda.
Over 46 million single-use plastic cutleries and containers are thrown away by restaurants in Hong Kong every week, according to a Greeners Action survey, in May 2019. Bupa Hong Kong has therefore partnered with BottLess, a start-up that drives environmental sustainability and helps individuals make every day behaviour changes that contribute to a healthier planet. The partnership, under the campaign name “Live Healthy Live Green”, aims to build awareness of the harm single-use plastics have on the environment amongst Bupa Hong Kong teams and the local community.
Bupa Hong Kong hosted a series of events on single-use plastics and led a clean-up hike in Shing Mun Reservoir. Additionally, Bupa and BottLess partnered with 10 restaurants in the Taikoo and Quarry Bay area. Each restaurant agreed a discount on takeaway items for Bupa people bringing reusable food containers, rather than requiring a single-use plastic container.
Bupa Hong Kong also sponsored all reusable utensils at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) annual Food Expo, over 15-19 August 2019. The attendees could borrow ‘Bupa x Bottless’ branded reusable food containers, on which a printed QR code gave access to various healthcare tips such as ways to improve diet, reducing plastic usage and yoga exercises, further promoting the “Live Healthy Live Green” campaign.
Andrew Merrilees, General Manager for Bupa Hong Kong Insurance, said: “Our partnership with BottLess aims to raise awareness of single use plastics and educate people on how improving the environment can also improve our health. Individual, everyday actions can make a big difference. This is an issue that affects all Hong Kong communities, so we are pleased to be taking an active role in raising awareness.”
At Bupa, we recognise that you can’t have healthy people without a healthy planet. That’s why we are committed to continue educating more people about the sustainable options available to us all.
