Bupa launches global health and wellbeing campaign, Smile

16 May 2016 . International

Today, Bupa, the global health and care company, launches a new global approach to workplace health and wellbeing – Smile – bringing together Bupa’s wellbeing programmes all over the world, with the aim of helping its 84,000 employees to live longer, healthier, happier lives.

With half of the world’s population in employment, and many people working longer than ever before, Bupa believes that the workplace is key area where businesses can help their employees to improve their wellbeing, by thinking about it in the widest sense, and empowering them to adopt healthier lifestyles.

Smile is Bupa’s global approach to wellbeing, beginning with its own people. It is focused on improving their wellbeing whilst they’re at work – whether that’s through information and education, or providing the tools and assets they need to make decisions about their health.

For example, Bupa Boost is a mobile health and wellbeing solution offered to all Bupa’s people that puts engagement at the heart of workplace health by encouraging sustained behaviour change and focuses on four key areas: fitness, nutrition, relaxation and mindfulness. As well as inspiring employees to become healthier, it can help businesses identify their employees’ key health concerns.

Bupa believes that wellbeing is about more than just diet and exercise; it is about how well an individual feels inside and out, and all the different elements that contribute towards that – from rewarding relationships to finances, and even recognition by peers.

With this approach at its core, Smile brings together Bupa’s workplace wellbeing programmes from over the world to engage its people in their health and wellbeing, and support them to be at their best – in work and outside of it.

Dr. Fiona Adshead, Chief Wellbeing and Public Health Officer at Bupa comments: “Our purpose – longer, healthier, happier lives – begins with the wellbeing of our 84,000 people, who provide healthcare to 32 million customers in 190 countries, doing different amazing things, every day. We recognise that, just as everyone is different, what matters the most for our wellbeing is different for each of us. Smile is about understanding and adapting to those needs, to help us all be at our best.”
