Bupa sells Teddies nursery group

1 May 2009

Bupa today announced it has sold its group of Teddies nurseries to Bright Horizons Family Solutions.

Since acquiring 18 Teddies nurseries in 2000, Bupa has grown the business into one of the leading providers and it now cares for over 3,000 children and babies in its 32 nurseries.

Bright Horizons Family Solutions was founded in the US in 1986 and began operating in Europe in 2000. It currently runs more than 100 nurseries across the UK and Ireland.

Mark Ellerby, managing director of Bupa Care Services said: “Teddies is an excellent business with a highly-motivated and well-trained team providing high-quality childcare. However, we believe that it has a greater opportunity to continue to grow as part of a group whose core business and focus is childcare and early years’ education.

”Bright Horizons share a similar outlook and values to Teddies. The company is committed to the same long-term goals of providing quality, individually-tailored childcare. “

Bupa and Bright Horizons are committed to working closely together to ensure a smooth handover for Teddies people, and the children and families for whom they care.

Bright Horizons managing director, Stephen Kramer, said: “Bupa has built an outstanding programme with the Teddies Nurseries, and we are excited to continue on that mission.

“Excellent childcare replicates much of a good and loving home, where caring adults nurture children and help them grow and learn, and creating these environments in our nurseries begins with outstanding support of staff and the work that they do. We are proud to welcome the Teddies Nurseries, their children, families and staff to the Bright Horizons family and into our home.”
