Leading expatriate health insurer, Bupa International, has won a Queen's Award for Enterprise for its continued substantial growth in overseas earnings and commercial success. This is the third time the company has won a Queen's Award for outstanding achievement in international trade, having been a previous winner in 1999 and 2005.
The Queen's Awards for Enterprise are the UK's most prestigious accolades for business performance, and recognise and reward outstanding achievement. They are made each year by Her Majesty the Queen, on the recommendation of an advisory committee that includes representatives of Government, industry and commerce, and trade unions.
Bupa International's managing director, Alistair How, said:To win this award for a third time in 11 years is outstanding. We now look after the health of more than 800,000 people in 190 countries - almost treble the number of customers we had in 2005. It's a huge challenge to meet the healthcare needs of people all over the world and so it's fantastic that our achievements have been recognised in this way. We are there for our customers and their families for everything from routine appointments with their local doctor, to heart bypass operations, right through to emergency evacuations from potentially life threatening and dangerous situations. For example, we recently helped a customer who was involved in a severe accident in the Bahamas, evacuating him by air ambulance to the nearest centre of medical excellence in Miami for emergency treatment. Whether you are a Chinese national living in the Czech Republic, or an Australian living in Alaska, we can meet your healthcare needs. We continue to look for new market opportunities - our successful launch in Russia last year is a good example of us bringing our healthcare expertise to expatriates in new territories.
Headquartered in Brighton, Bupa International has been providing expatriate health insurance for some of the world's largest companies since 1971. It offers access to more than 200,000 medical providers worldwide and can settle bills directly with over 7,500 hospitals and clinics. Customers also have access to Bupa International's multi-lingual doctors and advisers - unique among private medical insurers - who arrange hundreds of emergency evacuations and repatriations each year and offer medical advice and guidance, 24 hours a day.
