All of them involve working on real projects and in real roles. Whichever one you join, you can expect a high level of challenge along with support to develop the skills and experience you need to become a senior figure at Bupa.
General
A place on the General programme can lead to a huge range of different career paths. Recent graduates have gone on to do everything from Operations Manager at a Musculoskeletal Centre in London to Marketing Consultant for our Care Homes business in Australia.
Ultimately, it's down to your own interests and ambitions.
As such, you'll have the opportunity to choose the placements that suit you best. You'll acquire real breadth of experience, but also a high level of autonomy and responsibility. As you progress through each placement and build your networks, you'll find you are able to shape your own path.
The programme itself consists of a month-long induction followed by three placements over 18 months. Placements could be in any one of our business units and anywhere in the UK or in our businesses overseas.
Here's an example of what 18 months on the General programme might look like:
- Induction
- Five months as a member of our Health Information team in the London head office
- Six months at a health assessment centre in Manchester providing frontline operational management
- Six months working in our Spanish business, Sanitas, in a strategy role
As well as an ongoing programme of leadership development training, the business will also provide support for relevant professional qualifications. Graduates pursuing a career in HR, for example, have chosen to study for the CIPD. Others with an interest in project management have received support to attain the PRINCE2 accreditation. The possibilities are many and varied.
Finance
Our Finance programme has been designed to give you a broad
range of financial experience providing the perfect platform for
you to build a successful career.
The programme comprises a month-long induction and three
placements, which altogether will last between two to three years.
Wherever you find yourself, expect to enjoy early responsibility.
Finance is a critical part of our successful business. We'll want
you to get involved in projects, deliver improvements and make a
genuine contribution from day one.
We also want to give you maximum exposure. To make that happen, we
aim to give you three different finance roles in three different
business units. A typical path through our programme might look
like:
- Induction
- 12 months in Financial Accounting, Bupa Cromwell Hospital
- 9 months in Commercial Finance, Bupa Health and Wellbeing
- 9 months in Management Accounting, International Markets division
Over the course of the programme, you'll take on a range of responsibilities. This might see you analysing business performance, compiling management accounts, contributing to financial strategy or carrying out an internal audit.
At the same time, we'll also provide you with support to attain your choice of accountancy qualification (CIMA, ACCA or ACA).
The beauty of doing finance with us is that we have a huge range of different businesses within the Bupa group. So you should be able to pick up a very wide range of experience in a very short space of time. This will really help you in your bid to gain a professional qualification and to build your career.
Information Systems (IS)
As an IS graduate, you will do a month-long induction and four placements over two years. Each placement will be in a key area of the Group Technology and Information Systems (GTIS) function. As well as a wide suite of skills, this will provide you with an excellent overview of how our global systems operate.
The four placements will see you working in Solution Delivery, Programmes, Service Delivery and Testing. You will contribute to real projects from the word go, supported at all times by the technical expertise of your colleagues. You will also engage directly with our customers.
Here are some of the things you can expect to be doing.
- Implementing infrastructure and application-based technologies
- Providing technical support
- Producing detailed design documents
- Planning and leading projects following project methodology
- Analysing, planning and managing a functional testing project
- Suggesting improvements to current ways of working
- Managing offshore resources and third-party suppliers
Over the course of the programme, you will develop not only a wide range of practical experience but also a network of contacts that could prove invaluable throughout the rest of your career.
We will also encourage you to gain professional qualifications
along the way.
IS graduates are able to study for relevant qualifications
including PRINCE2, ITIL and ISTQB.
Marketing
Bupa is one of the most trusted and well-known brands in the marketplace. In this new programme, you'll gain a unique insight into how we project that brand throughout the UK and around the world.
Over the course of 18 months, you will undertake three placements. Each will see you working in a different part of our business and in a different marketing role. By the end of the programme, you can expect to have completed placements within our Group head office, one of our UK business units and potentially one of our international business units.
Together, these placements will give you exposure to all the key elements of our marketing work. These include:
- Brand management and leadership
- Customer-led strategy and planning
- Internal brand engagement and communications
- Customer propositions and experiences
- Marketing activation and execution
We'll provide you with diverse experiences enabling you to become a well-rounded and versatile marketing professional. At the same time there will be scope to shape your path through the programme and follow your own interests.
