How to apply

Back to Graduate opportunities

Applications for our 2012 programme are now closed. We will reopen for the 2013 programme in September 2012.

There are several stages to the process, after each of which, you will be informed if you have been successful to move forward to the next. Please contact graduateprogrammes@bupa.com with any questions.

Stage one: submitting your application

All applications need to be made online and links will be provided when applications are opened again in September 2012. You will be asked to upload your CV and answer a few key questions to determine your eligibility.

Before submitting an application, please make sure that you meet our minimum requirements for the programme. What are we looking for?

Progressing from this stage you will be asked to complete a short application form. Please make sure you devote some time and thought to the answers you provide as we will be deciding whether to take you through to the next stage based on your CV and responses to these questions. Please also make sure your CV lists all qualifications and grades acheived or predicted from A-level or equivalent onwards.

It's a small programme, and we usually receive a lot of applications, so you need to make sure your application stands out for all the right reasons. It sounds obvious, but please remember to check and recheck your work for any typos or spelling mistakes. We want our first impression of you to be as positive as possible.

Stage two: online testing

This is where we test your verbal and numerical critical reasoning skills. If you are applying for the Finance programme, you will also need to complete an abstract reasoning test.

You will be able to complete practice examples of these tests at the following SHL site: www.shldirect.com

Stage three: telephone interview

A member of our recruitment team will contact you to arrange a convenient time for your telephone interview.

The telephone interview will include competency-based questions, which means we will be asking you to give us specific examples that demonstrate you have the qualities we're looking for. It's worth thinking in advance about examples you might use. It's also worth making sure you've done your research, as we'll be using the telephone interview to check you have a real interest in Bupa and the programme you have applied for.

When it comes to the interview itself, find a quiet place where you know you won't be disturbed. And remember: it's fine to ask for a couple of moments to think about your answers or to ask for questions to be repeated.

Stage four: assessment centre

This involves you spending a day at our head office Bupa House in London or at our offices in Staines for the Information Systems programme. The assessment centre comprises a case study, group activity and interview. There will also be opportunities for you to meet people from the business and to find out more about what Bupa has to offer.

It's important to be yourself and relax (however difficult that may sound). The people who tend to do well at assessment centre are the people who act naturally, not the people who try to second-guess what we might be looking for. We'd also advise you to stay focused and give all the exercises everything you've got. We'll be looking at your performance over the day as a whole, so if one aspect of the assessment doesn't go as well as you would have liked it's important not to lose heart.

We'll reimburse any reasonable travel expenses you incur (if you have any questions about this or require overnight accommodation, please check with us in advance).

Assessment centre dates:

General programme: 11th January, 18th January and 26th January 2012
Marketing programme: 16th January and 24th January 2012

Stage five: final interview

Offers will be made shortly after a final interview with a senior sponsor of the programme.
